Shared Living Program
Are you currently caring for a parent or loved one in your home, or do you have
an extra bedroom and the desire to share your home with an elder or disabled adult?
If so, Boston Senior Home Care’s (BSHC) Shared Living program may be the answer.
Boston Senior Home Care’s Shared Living Program is an enhanced adult foster care
program that provides a supportive family environment for elders and disabled adults
who need assistance living successfully in the community. Through this program, the
Caregiver Host will be compensated with tax free income to make a referral or to

About the program:
- This program is funded by Mass Health and pays family and non family members
as a caregiver host to care for an elder or disabled adult. Money received through
this program by the Caregiver Host is tax free.
- The Caregiver Host provides a private bedroom in a family environment, meals,
limited personal care, transportation assistance, and medication reminding.
- Each Caregiver Host participates in a thorough assessment process before
being matched to a consumer.
- Consumers cannot be a spouse, parent, or legal guardian of the
Caregiver but can be a friend or other family member.
Eligibility:
- Consumer must meet certain financial eligibility requirements to be eligible
for this program.
- Consumer may be an elder or disabled adult 16 years or older.
- Consumer must have a medical diagnosis that requires daily assistance with
three activities of daily living (ADL's) such as bathing, dressing, and eating,
or two ADL's and the management of behaviors such as wandering, and resistance to
care.
- Caregiver Host must be at least 18 years old.
Application Process:
- Contact Boston Senior Home Care's information and referral line at 617-292-6211 to make a referral.
- The application process will start with a telephone interview.
- A member of the Shared Living team will make a home visit to conduct a personal interview and assessment.
- The Shared living program will obtain references and a criminal background (CORI) check.
Once Approved:
- The Shared Living staff will match you with a potential consumer or Caregiver Host.
- A consumer care plan will be developed by the Shared Living staff.
- Home visits will be conducted by RN and case managers.
- Trainings will be provided by the Shared Living staff.
